At 2359Z 31 Aug 2008 the Navy-Marine Corps MARS MDS system shut down.  All traffic not being forwarded or delivered on local nets will be sent via MARS WinLink.  See Chief MARS CMB 09-08.

  Winlink (MARS that is)
First and foremost, do not confuse MARS use of WinLink (WL2K) with Amateur Radio WL2K, or any other system.
while the software is the same the configurations and ops are quite different.

Per Chief MARS, the MARS Winlink system is to be used for formal record traffic only.  All informal or sensitve communication needs to be done by e-mail, or other means.

Where is...?
   Find your latitude and longitude or anyone's, anywhere in the world
   Locate a station by it's grid number

Region Ten ALL message addressing in WL2K
addresses that route based on msgs to NNN0ALL, NNN0ALC, NNN0ALR, etc

  Who to Turn to
Several members in Region Ten are operational on WL2K and quite knowledgable about setting up the software, it's use, and problems one can run into.  Just a few include TKR, KUL, and JBG

  Find your exact latitude and longitude
This link will take you to a worldwide map.  Just click on the world map any place in the world.
Use the plus [+] and minus [-] keys to zoom in and out.  Use the 4 arrow keys in the upper left,
or click with mouse while holding the left mouse button down to "grab" and move the displayed map
any direction.

When you find the location for which you want to obtain the latitude and longitude click on that spot.
An up-side-down teardrop should appear, pointing to that spot. If it's not exactly where you want it
move the "hand" and click again.
The latitude and longitude will be displayed in the respective boxes below the map.  You will get both
degrees-minutes-seconds and decimal degree formats.  Don't see both? scroll down just a tad more.

Now you can enter that data into your WinLink set up.  Your grid location will be inserted automatically.

click [Locate]
Locate by Grid No.

Region Ten stations
that are WL2K capable. Region 10 WinLink roster

No separate listing or identification is made of Radio Message Server (RMS) stations.
That information is automatically listed in WL2K software when you select to use RMS and
click on the field for the station to connect to.

  Region Ten WL2K routing addresses.

Messages may be sent to idividual members who are on WinLink directly to their WinLink address
e.g. NNN0AAA@winlink.org

The following are WL2K addresses for routing messages within Region Ten if addressed to:
   NNN0ALL xxx addresses, where xxx is Region Ten, Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, or Washington;
   to staff if you do not know the personal call, or whether they are on WL2K;
   multi-addressee messages to going to addressees in the region or state;
   third party messages destined for that state.

Use only the MARS call sign format listed:
e.g. NNN0R@winlink.org for messages to NNN0ALL REGION TEN.
Do not include the dash or the state abbreviation shown here.  They are listed for reference only.

Note:  This addressing does not affect the use of the standard addresses in the FM, TO,  and INFO addee lines in the message itself.

  Training Guide
NNN0AS0 Four has developed a Net Control Station (NCS) training guide.
While primarily intended for Tango members to use during their NCS training, it is
an excellent document for all, and a good refresher for longtime net controls.

  Region Ten NETS
Region Ten operates a variety of voice and digital mode nets
These files contain the latest list of times, frequencies, and other info
for nets operating in Region Ten:               PDF format

NOTE: NCS and alternate NCS will no longer be listed in these files.
Changes are too frequent and it's really only relevant for the net manager,
and of course the station that volunteered and is assigned to the duty

Power Limitations this links to an information file

  Frequency Identifiers
MARS HF frequencies, except a few national calling freqs, are considered confidential.
As such most files, data sources, and messages identify the frequencies using 3-ltr identifiers.
The cross reference of identifier to frequency can be found in the Frequency matrix,
